Answers to MQL (Marina Question List) are here. ;D
Big to Michele from a-p yahoo group for permission to repost it here.
Periodically, the fans submit questions that are subsequently forwarded to Marina for answers. Here is the recent list of questions and Marina’s answers:
1. Which three things would she take with her to a deserted island?
a. Marina:
i. My favorite book.
ii. Mobile phone
iii. Sunglasses.
2. Where do you see yourself in ten years?
a. Marina: I hope to be happy. Whatever I am doing, skating, coaching, being a wife and mother, it doesn't matter as long as I'm happy. I think in ten years the thing I hope to have the most is a strong and loving family.
3. As what would she like to be reborn?
a. Marina: A famous actress.
4. Chose a song that she would like to have dedicated to herself.
a. Marina: 'Windmills of My Mind"
5. Will we have any chance to see Marina and Gwendal at the Euros 2008 in Zagreb?
a. Marina: Not as a skater, for sure.
6. What is Marina’s favourite book(s)?
a. Marina: Graph Monte Cristo
7. What is your favorite city/town in the world (except Moscow and Lyon)?
a. Marina: Paris.
8. Will they come to Hungary in the future?
a. Marina: Maybe sometime not too far in the future. I would like to visit with Krisztina Regoczy.
9. What would she most like to see changed about international level ice dance?
a. Marina: The new system limits creativity in skating. Everybody is skating from element to element with not story or passion. It's important to have personality on the ice.
10. What did you think of the Italians and the Lithuanians coming back for the Olympic season?
a. Marina: They were very courageous to try to come back and compete. If I had decided to come back, it would have been for gold, nothing less.
11. Did it ever cross your mind (even just for a while) to do the same with Gwendal?
a. Marina: Yes I wanted to come back and compete in Torino but Gwendal’s and my lives have changed a lot since Salt Lake City and it wouldn't have been possible to throw our lives back into that world.
12. What did you think of how Barbara treated Maurizio after the Original Dance in Torino?
a. Marina: Of course she was very upset, but being kind in extreme situations shows class and she didn't show hers.
13. I don’t really have a question, I would just like to tell her that they have some big fans here in Greece too and to send them my love! And also, that we would like to see them skate sometime here in Greece!
a. Marina: Soon! I love Greece, especially the islands.
14. What is your favorite competitive program?
a. Marina: I loved them all because they are like my life. They each represent a special time in my life. I can't even choose just one favorite; they are all of maximum importance to me. I loved them all.
15. What schools did you graduate from?
a. Marina: I graduated elementary school in Moscow and after that I completed one year of studies at the University of Moscow. After I moved to France I had to put all my studies on a back burner so I could learn French. After I could speak French I passed my BE1 and I will hopefully take my BE2 but I have a lot of talent [aptitude].
16. What did you study in school?
a. Marina: I studied everything important that one would study in a Russian school.
17. If you had never skated, what do you think your job/occupation would have been?
a. Marina: Actress. Like Audrey Hepburn or Sophia Loren.
18. Since you are choreographing Johnny Weir’s free skate for the upcoming season, will we see you at US Nationals?
a. Marina: Maybe. Johnny and I have talked about it. If I don't have shows with Gwendal or something keeping me in Europe, I will go.
19. What is Gwendal’s best quality? What is his worse quality?
a. Marina: Gwendal has many good qualities and of course there are things we don't agree on, but I don't begrudge him anything because just as much as I am who I am, he is who he is for better or worse.
20. Who takes care of Maroussia while you are in the USA?
a. Marina: My mom!
21. Which new (young) ice dance team(s) do you like?
a. Marina: I like the Kerrs from Great Britain, Domnina/Shabalin from Russia and Khoklova/Novitski also from Russia.
22. What is your favorite movie?
a. Marina: Thomas Crown Affair
23. What is your favorite costume?
a. Marina: My Olympic free dance costume because I had a lot of creative input in that costume and I had good luck in it and I will never forget it. It made me feel beautiful and strong like every woman should be.
24. If you could go back and change one thing from yours and Gwendal’s competitive career, what would that be?
a. Marina: I wish we would have be World champions in Helsinki and Vancouver, three times instead of just once.
25. From some of the photos, you did not look very happy on the podium in Salt Lake City. Was it overwhelming? Can you remember what you were thinking about?
a. Marina: Of course I remember. Gwendal and I skated first, so after we finished we had an hour or so when we didn't know what would happen. That kind of stress is terrible! When I found out we had won I cried for a half hour and reapplied my make-up, and went to accept my Olympic gold medal. I was so tired because I gave every ounce of energy I had to my performance and I had nothing left to give. I was beyond happy with what I had done but stress ate all of my energy.
26. When you’ve participated in the Olympics, what other sports did you go see besides figure skating and hockey?
a. Marina: I only saw figure skating to watch my friends, and hockey because I wanted to enjoy the games with my father.
27. What made you and Gwendal decide to work with the Spanish choreographers again for “Piensa”? Did you already have the piece of music selected or did they suggest the music?
a. Marina: We chose to work with Antonio again because he is one of my good friends and because he is very good at what he does. Gwendal thought of the music and proposed the idea to me and we went from there.
28. Will you come to the USA to coach ice dance or are you planning on staying in France to coach?
a. Marina: I don't plan anything. I will go where the wind takes me.
29. A few months after the Olympics, the fans presented you with a “Remembrance Book”. Every now and then, one of the fans will send me E-Mail asking if Gwendal has seen the book yet. I think you mentioned that the book was at your Mom’s house. Would it be possible for Gwendal to see the book sometime?
The fans worked very hard on their contributions to the book and I think that it would make them feel better to know that he was able to see their work. Beside, then they could stop sending me E-Mail asking the same question. ;-)
a. Marina: Gwendal and his family saw the book. There was one book for two people and Gwendal's mother said my family could keep the book. We love it.
