I promised pics, so here they are.
Sorry, no people because I'm too lazy to ask permission to post those pics. And I skipped Friday/Saturday evening for ...uhm... several reasons. (No pics, Rasha! ) Also, some of the pics were taken from the (moving!) bus, so excuse all the window reflections.
I went to Split (a town on the coast of Adriatic sea) on a uni-related trip which was totally unplanned and I only got invited the evening before we were supposed to go. So, me being on 4 hours of sleep, no decent breakfast and NO COFFEE, I only remembered to take pics after we were well into second half of the drive (the drive was 6 hours long).
Funny looking hill....
View from the resting spot above river Krka - a truly beautiful sight, the pic does it no justice.
More hills. That little town in the middle left is Split.
Hotel room. I had an hour and a half free until my roomie came back. As you see, I made myself at home and tried to familiarize myself with map of Split. Also sms'd with Sami (Hi, Sami!), Zee (Szia!) and Rasha (you know what happened next. ). I'm happy to report that there was Eurosport on TV, but no FS.
View from the hotel room.
[snip to next day]
The next day we went to visit Split's Harbour.
That was not the best choice since most of us were pretty dead from the night before and at one point we all went a bit green in the face from all the smells. Despite that, it was rather interesting to see it all. They were currently working on unloading bananas for famous Croatian food chain store and we also saw some raw sugar that came from Brazil. There was also a $10 mil. yacht that got broken in an unloading accident during Croatia Boat Show which was few weeks ago.
After that we went to sightsee Split, but mostly Diocletian's Palace.
The People Square. Under the tower with the clock is the entrance to the Palace.
Peristyle.
Some pics from the inside.
The man himself.
Sarcophagus.
Gregory of Nin
We ran into a bit of traffic jam after sightseeing.
On the way back we went to see Nikola Tesla's Memorial Center.
View from the entrance. On the left is his house, on the right the church and behind it the cemetery.
Statue of Nikola Tesla.
Stone in front of the front door of the house. It shows how much is certain town far from the house. Yes, I did do an internal squee upon seeing Paris as one of the towns listed.
The house is pretty interesting to see. On all the walls are these displays that show the life on Nikola Tesla. You can also read some of his quotes, see a movie, hear a speech and there also sounds from his youth (like thunder and horses).
I especially liked the attic with some of his inventions...
The children's playground. We did not know what most of these structures are for, but we had fun exploring.
And the trip back.
And that's it.
