Re-post from the A & P ML...
I received a few questions from fans so I posed them to Gwendal.
Q1: If the national/folk dance OD theme had been used during their competitive years, what would he have chosen? Name a dance other than the flamenco.
A1: “Oh. [thinking for several seconds] I don’t know. It’s not an answer you can immediately come up with. When we were competing, it took a while to come up with an idea for a dance. I’ll need to think about this one.”
MAP: “Are there any French folk dances that you could have used?”
A1 continued: “There are some French folk dances but you couldn’t skate to them."
Question two was a question that had been asked in the past. Gwendal commented that he had read the question again in the E-Mail but still had no answer.
Q2: If he had an opportunity to ask one question to a famous, important person in the past; who would he ask and what would be the question?
A2: “I don’t know.” He paused like he was thinking. “I just don’t know. I don’t live in the past.”
MAP: I considered prompting him with names of famous French people…
Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Napoléon Bonaparte, Claude Monet, Claude Debussy, Marie Curie, and Louis XVI…but I thought that would be cheating.
Q3a: Can you ask Gwendal about the idea of including Nikita or the role of Nikita in the “Star Ice” Flamenco-Tango exhibition?”
Q3b: “What was it like skating with Marina being so advanced in the pregnancy?”
A3a: “It wasn’t my idea. Nikita asked. Marina was skating for him.”
A3b: “It was strange. Marina wasn’t afraid so I wasn’t afraid. If you remember, I had very little contact with her. Most of the time she skated on two feet so it was pretty safe.”
MAP: For those of you who saw the video, Marina omitted the SLSS and they did not do the lift.
Gwendal’s next comment cracked me up. As if to say ‘You’d be proud of me Michele…’
“I did have to raise my voice once. Nikita wanted to do a lift with Marina. I just put my foot down and said, “I’m not even lifting her so you are NOT going to lift her!!!”
Typically, after each show is broadcast, I send my comments to Gwendal. I told him that John Z and partner, Jerome Blanchard and partner, and he and Lera are the best teams on the show.
I asked if he had an opportunity to watch Jerome’s “Edith Piaf” program. A few weeks ago, I commented that program was the best one for that week. I never realized that “Edith Piaf” spoken in English and spoken in French was so different until I asked the question. Gwendal had no freaking clue what I said.
“Gwendal! You know…the famous French singer. Very expressive…your friend played her in the movie. THAT Edith Piaf!”
“Oh! E-dit Peef. [That’s what it sounded like to me when he said it; definitely no “th” sound.] It was amazing!!!”
Gwendal said that “The blonde guy is very good. He can do some incredible moves.” [Grebenkina’s partner Alexander Belov]
Despite the fact that I take notes for the report, I always seem to forget something. This necessitates a follow up E-Mail with more questions or requests for clarification. Since Gwendal was just playing around on his computer, I assumed that I was not in any danger of losing more points so I pressed the redial button on my phone.
“What did you forget?”
“Gwendal, in the piano program where you rip off your sun glasses, are you supposed to be a blind person who has their sight restored?”
“Yes.”
“Why does Lera have the scars on the side of her face? What’s the significance of that?”
His answer cracked me up because I thought there was some deeper meaning like he had a physical challenge (blindness) and she had one (the scars).
“The make up artist just wanted to put those on her face.”
“Oh.” [Michele sounding totally confused because it wasn’t what I expected to hear.]
“Are you still planning on having the family over for Christmas?”
“Yes.”
“So, when do you move into your new house?”
“On the 24th.”
Yes, folks. You read that correctly. Gwendal is moving on Christmas Eve. That man needs a serious vacation after all of this.
Regarding the inside joke/surprise for the fans. Hopefully, you all saw the episode with Gwendal playing Dr. Evil.
Continuing along the same lines, Gwendal sent us some photos.
Enjoy!

Time to say goodbye to my hair.
At least the helmet will fit better.
“I’m trying to explain to you why I decided to finally cut my hair.”
Nice try Gwendal! This doesn't count as the MITIM practice shirt resurrection photo!
After effects of a visit to Chernobyl
