So, the show has started today with a gala. A very nice one indeed - we saw Mishin-Moskvina, Linichuk-Karponosov, Klimova-Ponomarenko, Grishuk-Platov on ice together again, as well as famous Kalinka by Rodnina and Dmitriev now, and also Cumparsita by Gorshkov and four ladies skaters Speaking of Marina - she did a wonderful number with her father, famous soviet hockey player Anisin, to a song with a lyrics like "Dad was right then" She is going to skate with russian actor and singer Nikita Dzhigurda. Think they gonna look great together Other skaters involved are Oksana Kazakova, Tatiana Basova, Elena Grushina, Ruslan Goncharov, Petr Chernyshev, Oksana Grishuk, Victor Petrenko, Alexei Urmanov, Arthur Dmitriev, Marina Klimova, Sergei Pomomarenko, and there seems to be one person I can't remember now, shame on me, sorry!

You forgot Arkadii Sergeev. Thanks for the update! I can't wait to see this! ETA: The pairs were announced today? And also, was there any mention of people from other countries being able to vote?

I don't see his name in any of the vids from RDOI, so maybe he wasn't.

So, the first day of competitions is over. TV has started the show half-an-hour earlier than was sheduled (hate people! I missed Grishuk, though I know they had a fall), but I somehow felt it right in time to turn it on and see Marina. They skated to "Hello Dolly" from the musical of the same title, the number was nice and light, they were dressed in white/silver and looked quite confident in skating, though maybe the number was a bit too simple. Anyway, they got average marks - 3.5 4.5 4.5 4.5 4.5 (3.5 from Bobrin, he said that Dzhigurda was too expressive during the program), and share 9th place with Grishuk. Most of the duets did not impress me much, though I should tell about two great starts: Kovalchuk-Chernyshev - skated to a song by Milen Farmer, I think, sad clowns like costumes, beautiful program and the girl did very well for the newcomer. Grushina-Zelensky - great modern music number, very confident, though no surprise - the guy learned figure skating when he was a boy. Another nice pair to my mind is Antonova-Urmanov.

Thank you for report, Alena. Haven't seen the vids anywhere yet, so this is much appreciated.
What did Grushina-Zelensky skate to?

Unfortunately, no idea what this song is. Some kind of dance-techno-pop.

Btw, as for votings - no idea if it can go from other countries, but to vote for Marina you should send sms with the number 2 to the 6060. International code for Russia is 007, so you can give it a try.

So, it's 0076060 and in the sms is 2?
How exactly is the voting done? Everyone votes for their favorites and the pair with least votes drops out?
