Talked to Gwendal on February 9 and just a few minutes ago...
February 9, 2010
On a side note, Gwendal phoned me using his spiffy new Canadian cell phone.
He arrived in Vancouver safe and sound. He was walking around town as he was
talking.
"Guess who I ran into?"
My first guess was Victor "shoot me if I ever grow my hair that long" Kraatz.
Gwendal said that I was close. My second guess was Shae-Lynn Bourne. Wrong
again.
"Think of the podium."
Barbara Fusar-Poli?
"Yes. Barbara and Maurizio"
Babs and Mauri are in Vancouver to do the commentary for Italian television.
We talked about the interview (see link provided yesterday). I commented that
Gwendal seemed a bit reserved when singing "Waiting on an Angel". He asked if I
had seen the Ben Harper video on You Tube. I had not so I watched it tonight.
The song is quite subtle so it's not one that would have a lot of crescendos.
I asked about the lady who seemed to be reading her responses. Gwendal reminded
me that this was a radio program that just happened to be filmed.
I complimented him on his diplomatic response when the host asked about Isa and
Oli's chances at the Olympics. He said that their experience will help them.

Today, Gwendal's response to the "How are you doing?" question was "Busy!" Obviously the activity level at Club France has increased as we approach the start of the Olympic games.
We had a question for the GQL:
Q: With all the Phantom ["Phantom of the Opera"] numbers being done this year, could you ask Gwendal if he and Marina ever considered skating to any of that music? The music is so powerful and wouldn't they have skated so gracefully and beautifully (not to mention how awesome Gwendal looks in a blousy shirt and/or tuxedo).
I caught him before he left for the Opening Ceremonies.
A: "Yes. I listened to it and and thought that one piece was great but the rest was lame." (Yes, he actually used the word "lame").
He laughed when I read the section about how awesome he looks in those blousy shirts. However, I have to confess that my memory of how he looks in the "MITIM" practice costume is a bit dim. He was supposed to have ‘refreshed’ it by sending a more recent photo in the aforementioned shirt but, alas, my E-Mail is still empty.
Hold please while I go find that box of Kleenix to wipe the tears from my eyes.
I asked where Gwendal ran into Maura and La Babs.
“In the street.”
Here’s something I found a bit mind blowing (disbelief). We were discussing his accreditation. Would you believe that, currently, he has no accreditation? They are working on resolving that issue. I think it would be a sad day if an Olympic Champion was not able to attend the competition that he won eight years before.
Gwendal promised to send photos of him dressed in his French team uniform. I will post them as soon as I have them.
