granted, they're one of the best ice dance teams ever. but of course, like any other team, there are some elements or styles of dances that are their achilles' heel.
for instance, their sychronization in side by side footwork seems to be their weakest. gwendal seems to be a bit behind marina in that aspect. i always become nervous when they do such element coz gwendal seems to always have to catch up to marina. and gwendal also at times becomes a bit too shaky when lifting marina.
style wise, they dont come across as convincing in samba and quickstep as they do with other styles. i particularly dont like their 2000 OD latin combo. i've even read/heard criticisms somewhere before that that OD wasnt as strong in expression as that of other skaters, and i think that stirred AP to come up with more true-to-the-spirit ODs since, particularly that brilliant flamenco.
thoughts?

I agree with you that sometimes, they had problems with synchronisation, but in their times,it wan't so strict,no COP,no true deductions for what skaters really skated In addition, when you look at their BLN ,the did 4+4 twizles, while fp/m were doing 2+2 ;)So maybe they had sometimes problems, but their programs were also far more difficult than the others But style wise,I can't agree at all I always loved their latin combo,I find it really hot and funny at the same time

But style wise,I can't agree at all I always loved their latin combo,I find it really hot and funny at the same time that OD did get better at worlds particularly with a much better music selection. i despised that when they debuted it at probably NHK or lalique, particularly with the choice of music at that time (dont know what those songs are but something by black machine and one titled passion). i just thought "and they call it latin?" it just didnt move me the way their jive, waltz, and flamenco ODs did and still do. what about that OD that you find hot and funny?

hmmmm....how can I explain it ? All their expression and elements during the second part are hot in my opinion and that fast ending and their expressions are funny for me

Oh, I loved the OD as well, the Euros and Worlds versions. And what makes me love it is totally expressed in on word: JOY. The whole routine is playful and joyous and leaves a smile on my face it makes me wanna jump out and dance. And my parents loved it as well. As for the twizzles, yes, they were a bit off sometimes, but as said before, their programmes were always difficult, especially the BLN footwork is soooooo hard! The lifts, hmmm, I could see only about two or three times some problems, but in general I´ve always thought about Gwendal (and Marina) doing a great job at lifts.

they do a great job on lifts, especially in being innovative with them and making them seamless with the rest of the choreography, not to mention making the lifts work with the music.

The absolutely best example is in my opinion in Carmina Burana, after Gwendal did his two huge jumps in front of the judges and the lift they did after that - the ending when Marina "falls down" exactly to the last powerful beat of that part of the music. That was the most music-accurate and brilliant lead-out of a lift I´ve ever seen They managed to do it absolutely spot on to the music at the Euros 2000 and also at TEB 1999 I think. All in all, their lifts are really difficult to surpass in difficulty, originality and innovation (I think probably only Isa&Oli can equal , but not surpass them).
